The Tesla Model Y is now #1 year-to-date in Austria.
New car sales in Austria soar 16.1% year-on-year in September to 20,735 units, however the year-to-date tally remains in frank negative at -14% to 163,209. The Top 4 brands all beat the market, with the podium identical to the YTD and FY2021 charts. Volkswagen is up 26.3% to 14.6% share, Skoda is up 39% to 9.1%, BMW gains 28.7% to 7.3% and Tesla surges 94.6% to 7.1% share at #4 vs. #17 YTD. Mercedes (+37%) and Seat (+19.6% also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Below and in order of sales, Toyota (+64.8%), Cupra (+397.2%) at 3.5% share vs. 3.9% for Seat, Peugeot (+39.7%), Mitsubishi (+128.7%), Mini (+112.7%) and Porsche (+30.3%) make themselves noticed.
Model-wise, this time the Top 6 fares much better than the market. The Tesla Model Y (+282%) surges to 6.9% share but more significantly and spectacularly goes from #8 YTD after 8 months to #1 now. The Skoda Octavia (+366.8%) is even more impressive at #2, a ranking it also holds YTD instead of #5 as of last month. The VW Polo (+102.9%) rallies back up 11 spots on August to #3, ahead of the VW ID.4 (+92.9%) up 12 to #4 and the Cupra Formentor (+231.5%) up 13 to #5. The VW Tiguan (+423.6%) follows with the largest gain. %), Mitsubishi Space Star (+167.1%) and Dacia Duster (+78.9%) also impress below.
